You have to give it awhile when you see it. This is a show where Act II is significantly better than the first act. It's one of the best second acts in recent memory. A lot depends on the cast you see, especially Mark, who to me is the most interesting character, never quite sure whether to just stand back with his camera and watch everybody else or to actually get involved(this is a part I'd love to play!) and Mimi, who if she's too over the top, the whole thing will fall apart.

The score has some very weak moments, but they are more than compensated for by "Seasons of love", "The Tango Maureen", "One Song Glory", "Light my Candle", "Santa Fe" and the very underated "Without You" and the truly magnificent "Living in America" that comes at the climax of Act II.

Not a perfect show by any means, but it's got some wonderful moments, is well worth seeing and certainly listening to (skip "Over the Moon" if you can, an unbearable performance art number, where Larson can't quite make up his mind if he's spoofing the genre or joining it.") and is very good as a chronicle of it's time. Charge by some that it was only a big hit because Johnathan Larson died is very unfair. This always had enough to make it interesting. Definitiely, listen to it. Some of the numbers will be very rewarding.

Pet peeve - You didn't borrow a soundtrack. You borrowed a cast album. Soundtracks refer only to movie scores, no matter how many music stores mislabel things.
