Why do so many owners/general managers keep managers dangling when it's clear they are going to fire them instead of firing them outright? Wouldn't it
be kinder to just let them go than to have the media keep speculating about what day it will be?
The Nationals are the latest to do this. It's been clear for a couple of weeks that they plan to fire Manny Acta. Let's put aside that not even Earl Weaver or Joe Torre could win with this awful bullpen, and concentrate on the firing itself. If they are going to do it, let them do it.
It's not limited to Washington. The Yankees did this to Torre, and there are many other examples. I think it's pointless and cruel to let it become a media circus. Just let the man go if you're going to do it rather than keep him twisiting in the wind.
